Featured Student: Yaffa Gallego-Fastag

May 22, 2017

Yaffa Gallego-Fastag was born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey. After finishing a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy from Kean University, she moved to Brooklyn to complete her masters degree in Occupational Therapy from SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

She went to Orthodox Jewish elementary and high schools throughout her life, but grew up in a home that could be best defined as “traditional.” Through this exposure to Judaism, and with the friendship of many Orthodox Jewish girls, a deep love for Judaism and Israel was instilled in her. Yaffa attempted to live a religious life, but with limited support, struggled for many years. When she arrived at graduate school, she became more active in the Jewish life there and began her journey to explore and keep Torah and mitzvot. Yaffa is now completely observant, and after completing her masters decided to come to MRC to deepen her understanding and love for Judaism.

Since starting at MRC only a few weeks ago, Yaffa has developed a deeper love and understanding of Torah. When asked about the staff Yaffa stated, “One thing I love about MRC is that the teachers are incredibly open minded and understanding. They share a passion and excitement for the topics they teach.”

Yaffa is enjoying her time at MRC and plans to stay until August 2017. She has plans to go back to New York to work as an Occupational Therapist in the Board of Education. Yaffa is also considering making Aliyah and is looking into different options while she is here in Yerushalayim. Meanwhile, she is gaining from every day at MRC!
